CEMO’s director gets awarded for excellent research
Sigrid Blömeke recently received a renowned German prize for her outstanding research on the effects of teacher education.
“I am very honoured to have received the German Educational Research Association research award”, Blömeke says. “I am a bit overwhelmed and very excited.” The German Educational Research Association’s (GERA) award committee represents various pedagogical research directions and is in charge of selecting the winner. The award was presented during GERA’s General Assembly.
The committee had the following reason for awarding Blömeke: “Sigrid Blömeke gets the Research Award from the German Educational Research Association for her outstanding accomplishments in her research on effects of teacher education.” The committee especially appreciates that Blömeke chose to prioritize interdisciplinary cooperation with subject didactics and psychologists in her research. Another aspect about Blömeke’s research which the committee emphasized was that the new instruments live up to the highest methodological requirements, even though the tests are videobased and demand complex actions by the teachers.

She obtained her PhD in sociology at the University of Paderborn in 1999 and got her postdoctoral lecture qualification in pedagogics in 2001.
