Academic Interests

I joined the CEMO team at the University of Oslo as a Quota PhD candidate in January, 2015. My main research interests are secondary school and higher education; especially, academic achievement, differences, predictive validity of national examinations and grades, and the effects of unequal educational opportunities in Ethiopia. In my project, I use student census data from national examinations in Ethiopia. The first part of my project focuses on inequalities of educational opportunity across different regions of the country and their effect on school achievement. The second part of my project Investigates the differential predictive validity of high school grades and university entrance examination for future academic participation and success as a function of educational opportunities. I also treat the gender gap in academic achievement across different years of schooling in different regions of the country. Furthermore, I am interested in methods of testing Spearman's law of diminishing returns (SLDR) with regard to performance level and age of the students.

My project is funded by the Norwegian Quota Scholarship, CEMO (Centre for Educational Measurement at the University of Oslo), and LEA (Large Scale Educational Assessment) at The Faculty of Educational Sciences,University of Oslo.
