The Department of Teacher Education and School Research (ILS) aims to sustain and further develop its position as a leading academic milieu in Norway within the fields of teacher education, subject didactics, educational leadership and school relevant educational research.
By educating teachers and school leaders based on leading school research ILS aims to shape future education in Norway. The department employs around 140 people consisting of researchers, techical and administrative staff, and has about 1000 students. We are located at the Faculty of Educational Sciences at the University of Oslo. The department was established in 1996, but has a history with roots as far as to Pedagogical Seminar, which was established in Oslo in 1907.

Nordic Centre of Excellence QUINT unites researchers from Nordic countries investigating aspects of teaching quality.
Proted - Centre for Professional learning in Teacher education
ProTed aims to generate new knowledge about teaching and learning, ensuring that students at the University of Oslo and UiT The Arctic University of Norway recieves an integrated, research based teacher education.
Teaching Learning Video lab (TLVlab)
TLVlab support researchers and students working with audio and visual data. The unit provides services and advice through the entire research project.
Unit for quantitative analysis in education (EKVA)
EKVA is a research unit at the department with a portfolio significantly linked to large international studies. The unit´s activity is based on high method competence regarding quantitative analyses and high competence in subject didactics.
