Guri Skedsmo is Associate Professor at the Department of Teacher Education and School Research, University of Oslo in Norway, and Professor at the Institute for the Management and Economics of Education, University of Teacher Education Zug in Switzerland. Her main research interests are in the areas of educational governance and leadership, school development and change as well as professional development of school leaders.

In recent years she has participated in an EU-project on the functions of school inspection in different European countries and she has been co-leading another EU-project on the role of feedback and coaching as part of professional learning for school leaders. As a member of the LE@DS-network (which is led by Prof. Helen Gunter at the Manchester University), she has for several years been involved in comparative work on New Public Management and education reform.  

Currently, she is working with Dr. Sølvi Mausethagen (Oslo and Akershus University College) and Dr. Tine S. Prøitz (Vestfold University College) on the research project, Practices of Data Use in Norwegian Municipalities and Schools (PraDa) which is financed by the Norwegian Research Council (FINNUT) and explores local data practices to improve schools. She also takes part in two research projects on change and development in schools in difficult circumstances in the German speaking context.

Since 2002 she has been involved in developing professional development programmes for school leaders and she teaches at the Master Programme in Educational Leadership and the National Principal Programme at the University of Oslo. Guri Skedsmo is also Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Educational Assessment, Evaluation and Accountability.
