Jon Magne Vestøl PhD is professor emeritus of religious and moral education at the Department of teacher education and school research.

Research Field

Vestøl's research covers three areas:

Moral/Ethics Education: Vestøl's PhD thesis was a qualitative investigation in the field of moral education. The thesis investigated the relationship between principles and relations in religious/moral education as expressed through textbooks and responses from secondary school students. Other works cover contextual and relational aspects of moral education. 

Religious Education: Vestøl has published several studies of textbooks (film, ICT, representations of religions) and studies of the relationship between textbook presentations of religion and worldview and the understanding of religion and worldview among students.

Teacher Education: Vestøl has published several studies related to design perspectives on teaching and education, partly in connection with the Center of Excellency in Teacher Education: ProTed.
 

Teaching and Supervision

Vestøl has been a teacher and supervisor in teacher education programs, in particular the master level of the studies in religious and moral education. 

He has also given lectures in topics such as ICT and learning and ethical leadership.
