Incident at UiO on Wednesday August 5th 2015

The Faculty Leadership at the Faculty of Educational Sciences praises students, staff, the police and the central administration at UiO for their handling of events on Wednesday.

Staff were forced to quickly adjust their working plans for the day as the Police decided to evacuate the Helga Eng building yesterday, and students who had prepared for exams were required to leave in the midst of their written examinations.

Such incidents naturally create uncertainty and fear, which is why it is especially important that all the involved stay calm and act sensibly - as you all did. We also know that UiO is currently working on a review of the crisis communication and crisis management in general, and we are confident that learning points will arise from this work.

Any memeber of staff who experienced the situation as especially unpleasant and difficult can contact the Occupational Health Services Unit via, or phone 22 85 88 95. Such contact is naturally confidential. The student organisation SiO also has a general psycho-social health service which is available by phone 22 85 31 81 between 08:15-11:00 and 12:00-15:00.

Today the Faculty is busy finding new dates for the exams that had to be interrupted and will be in touch with the students involved during the next few days. The Faculty Student Information Center is open once again during normal operating hours to answer any practical questions relating to the exams. On a different note, the Faculty is also in the midst of final preparations for meeting our new students this coming Monday. We all look forward to a new semester with our staff, students and primary activities in focus.
