Title: Linking Recent and Older IEA Studies on Mathematics

Abstract: International large-scale assessments of student achievement are constructed to assess country-level differences and change over time. The present research project intends to contribute to a coherent understanding of the international trends in educational outcomes by developing comparable trend measures of both cognitive and non-cognitive, i.e., motivational outcomes. This project consists of 1) the evaluation of the degree of comparability across recent and older studies on mathematics conducted by the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement; 2) establishing trend scales for both types of outcomes; 3) the investigation of group differences in the long-term trends of both types of outcomes.
