  • Strategic leadership within education and school management

The change rate in society requires faster adaptability, the coordination and harmonizing of tasks, and cross-sectoral interaction to solve complex challenges. The organization-based culture within leadership becomes challenged and more complex.

The project will do a study in how managers in education and other sectors in an county municipality describe their competence. The purpose is to document, analyze and interpret leaders' descriptions. By mapping management skills in several sectors, the project wishes to identify sector-specific and generic competencies and characteristics.

The project uses qualitative methods to gain insight and understanding of how leaders in a county municipality experience and reflect on their own leadership in implementing strategic plans.

The work has the following issue: How do managers in an county municipality describe competences related to strategic management and what meanings can this have for strategic management in the education sector?

The project poses the following research questions:
1. What competencies in management emphasize leaders as important in implementing strategic plans in a county municipality?
2. What are the differences between the sectors in terms of leaders descriptions of strategic management skills?
3. How do leaders in the education sector describe their personal visions and the belief in succeeding in implementing strategic plans?

The research work provides the opportunity to study management within different sectors of an county municipality and is expected to provide increased competence in strategic management. The results will provide important knowledge of strategic leadership within education and school management, and the ability to strengthen the student's Learning.
