In my PhD-project Being Human in the Anthropocene. Ideas in Social Studies Education I am studying how social studies as a school subject frames human being. I am interested in the ontology and epistemology the subject builds on and - interrelated with it - central concepts, methods, and competencies. The study is situated within the broader field of sustainability education. How we narrate human being influences how we approach matters of sustainability, e.g. how we define them and try to deal with them in and through education. The theoretical framework for the study is grounded in Peircean semiotics.
