Petra Hansson has a PhD in Education from Uppsala University, Sweden and she is currently holding a Post Doc position at the Department of Teacher Education and School Research. In her PhD-project she studied approaches to Environmental and Sustainability Education (ESE) in outdoor education and ecocriticism as well as conducted empirical analyses of how situated circumstances such as text, place, mobility, social situations and previous experience participate in environmental meaning making.

 In her post doc project, her research focuses on political, aesthetical and emotional dimensions of teaching and learning controversial and complex sustainability issues in formal and informal education with a particular focus on museum education. 

In her previous position, as Senior Lecturer at Uppsala University, she was teaching at the Master Program in education as well as at the various teacher education programmes. In particular she was teaching courses dealing with theories and methods in educational research, norms and values in education and learning theories and didactics. She has also been working as educator at the Swedish International Centre of Education for Sustainable Development (SWEDESD) and with professional development for teachers at the Centre for Professional Development and Internationalisation in Schools, Uppsala university.

She is also part of the scientific network “Public Pedagogy and Sustainability Challenges” which is a European interdisciplinary network working with the public role of education in times of sustainability challenges focusing on research on the relation between education and societal transformation.
