An introduction to multilevel structural equation models
The multilevel structural equation model (MSEM) is a very flexible tool for establishing both structural validity of measurement of latent constructs across levels of hierarchically nested data, as well as investigating relationships between level-specific latent constructs. We will start by defining the multilevel model within the structural equation modelling framework. We will then introduce multilevel confirmatory factor analysis (MCFA) and full multilevel structural equation models (MSEM). In the worked examples I will use example data of time-points nested within persons from the Learning Every Lesson (LEL) dataset.
