Attentive glimpse as retrieval associate: Components of objects' shape property-shape cue and recognition proficiency (completed)

About the project

This project is focused on cognitive activity; or more precisely on “information processing”, in general, and on “recognition proficiency”, in particular, i.e., when perceiving information by (1) vision, and (2) touch. Indeed, which object properties-object cues, e.g., shape and texture, and/or components of object properties-object cues, e.g., line straightness and symmetry, are familiar; thus produce the most proficient object recognition, when changing over from vision to touch? Actually, previous research has found that precursors, pre-cuing object shape, improved the recognition proficiency of newly blinded individuals.

The goal of this project is to contribute to the knowledge of whether and how these precursors could be improved: by including certain component(s) of objects’ shape property-shape cue.

Research question: Which component(s) of objects’ shape property-shape cue produces the most proficient shape, thus object recognition in (1)
vision, and (2) touch?

Design: Mixed design, i.e., a combination of quantitative experiments, qualitative “self-reports”, and one “performing-report”.
