Reading Rooms and Group Rooms

Reading Rooms

There are two reading rooms at Helga Engs hus. The reading room on the 2nd floor is for all students, and does not require reservation.

Reading room for Master’s students

The reading room on the 3rd floor is for Master’s students at the faculty, and has reserved seats. The number of desks is limited, and are allocated based on 1) needs (health-related reasons as to why you need a reserved seat) and 2) seniority (how long until you will submit your master thesis). You must renew your application every semester, even if you have had a reserved seat in the previous semester. The application deadline is 1st of February for the spring semester and 1st of September for the autumn semester. To apply, please use this application form

If there are special circumstances that should give you a priority in the allocation of seats, this must be documented by e.g. a doctor's certificate. The documentation must be delivered to the UV Student Information Centre desk within the application deadline. Mark the envelope with "Reading room inspector". If you need a specific seat, that must also be documented. Documentation must be delivered each semester you apply.

The distribution will be completed approximately September 10th/February 10th, and will be announced on a list on the left hand side outside the reading room. The distribution will not be sent by email. The seat must then be labeled with your name, semester and time table within two weeks after allocation. Do you have questions about the the reading rooms? Contact the reading room inspector at lesesalsinspektor@uv.uio.no

For alternative study areas, please refer to the library.
