About OEES

The Oslo Early Education Study (OEES) is a research project designed to strengthen language-supportive practices in early childhood education and care (ECEC) located in diverse urban areas. It targets all children aged one to six, their parents, and ECEC teachers.

The OEES model

The OEES model consists of three main components: teacher coaching, collaboration with parents, and suggestions for activities and working methods that promote children’s participation, play, and exploration.

Work within OEES is organized into thematic units based on high-quality children’s literature and the Norwegian Framework Plan for Kindergartens. Each theme highlights what children can learn about the world, as well as about themselves and others.

Development and research

The model was developed in collaboration between:

  • Preschool owners in five districts in Oslo
  • Pedagogical-Psychological Service (PPT) in Oslo Municipality
  • The Norwegian Center for Science Education at UiO
  • The Department of Education at UiO

The OEES was initiated by Oslo Municipality. The Department of Education at UiO has led the development of the model and the associated research. PPT now leads the implementation in Oslo Municipality.

The project has been funded by Områdesatsingene i Oslo – delprogram oppvekst og utdanning and the Research Council of Norway.

Research articles from the project are published on an ongoing basis.
