Socio-economic status (SES) is a multi-faceted construct that is of primary interest in research on equity and equality in education. In practice, different surveys vary in the exact operationalization of SES, which hampers the comparability of findings and making sense of SES-related results in the literature. I'll present ongoing work with dr. Wangqiong Ye & dr. Trude Nilsen, where we are exploring the extent to which the cyclical nature of the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) and its double-cohort target populations can be exploited to enrich TIMSS data with a key SES indicator that currently is absent in the TIMSS grade 8 survey.
CREATE Open Seminar: Missing Data Handling When a Variable Is 100% Missing and Other Wizardry: A Case Study on Data Enrichment for Measurement of SES in TIMSS.
This seminar will be given by Professor Johan Braeken. In this talk, he will present an ongoing study on data enrichment for measuring socio-economic status in the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study.
Professor Johan Braeken.
