Disparities in educational opportunities constitute a global challenge. The goal of the research at CREATE is to generate groundbreaking knowledge about learning environments that enable all children to realize their potential, regardless of background.
Our research addresses these areas:
1. Identifying barriers to equality in education
The ambition of the research in Strand 1 is to provide the knowledge needed for addressing the barriers to equality in education.
2. Intervening on barriers to equality in education
The ambition of the research in Strand 2 is to develop reliable, durable, and educationally meaningful interventions addressing the barriers to equality in oral language, reading, mathematics, and problem-solving.
3. Addressing key methodological challenges
The ambition of the research in Strand 3 is to develop novel methods and statistical software that are tailor-made to the research questions and data of CREATE.
Why conduct research on inequality in education?
Education can changes lives. However, in a global context there is a significant proportion of children who do not get the opportunity to realize their potential through education.
We have extensive knowledge about the factors that contribute to inequality in education, but limited understanding of how and why these factors—both individually and collectively—lead to inequality. As a result, we do not know how to best promote and facilitate equal educational opportunities.
CREATE offers a unique opportunity to bridge research on social contexts, school quality, skill development, technology, and statistical methods, and to redefine the way we study equality in education.
