Five-Day CANDLES Workshop in Nuuk

The CANDLES project team met in Nuuk, Greenland, in May 2026. The visit provided an important opportunity to learn more about the Greenlandic education system and to strengthen collaboration among project partners.

To gain a deeper understanding of the educational context in Greenland, we planned visits to two schools: one in Nuuk and another in a settlement north of the city. During the workshop, we learned about the unique conditions for conducting educational research and fieldwork in Greenland.

Unfortunately, adverse weather conditions prevented the planned boat trip to the settlement. Nevertheless, our visit to the school in Nuuk provided valuable insights into local educational practices, school leadership, and community engagement.

We greatly enjoyed our stay at Ilisimatusarfik (the University of Greenland). As part of the programme, colleagues from the Department of Learning, which is responsible for teacher education in Greenland, presented their work and shared perspectives on current developments in education and teacher preparation.

Planning a new workshop in Iceland

One of the major upcoming activities of the project is a workshop in Iceland in October, where all participating principals and researchers will come together. Preparations for this event are well underway, and we have assembled a group of school principals, with two principals participating from each partner country.

The workshop in Nuuk provided valuable opportunities for learning, dialogue, and planning the next phases of the project. Insights gained from the Greenlandic context will contribute to the project's broader aim of understanding and supporting sustainable educational leadership across Arctic regions.
