Open lecture by professor David L. Kirp

Professor David L. Kirp will hold the lecture "Children First-policy" at the Department of Special Needs Education.

Background

David L. Kirp is a professor of public policy at the Goldman School of Public Policy, University of California, Berkeley. From the beginning of his career children's issues have been his passion. In his fifteen books and scores of articles in both the popular press and scholarly journals he has tackled some of America's biggest social problems. His involvement with government agencies and foundations, as well as his teaching and his community activism, address these issues at ground level. Between the 2008 election and the Inauguration, he served on President Obama's Transition Team.

Professor Kirp's publications include Gender Justice (University of Chicago Press 1986), Shakespeare, Einstein, and the Bottom Line: The Marketing of Higher Education (Harvard 2003), The Sandbox Investment: The Preschool Movement and Kids-First Politics (Harvard 2007) and Kids First: Five Big Ideas for Transforming Children's Lives (Public Affairs 2011).
