Attendance and Extended Deadlines for Compulsory Activities

This page provides information about attendance requirements and extended submission deadlines for at the Department for Special Needs Education.

Some of the teaching are compulsory for academic reasons. We recommend that students attend all classes, but attendance will only be recorded for sessions marked as compulsory.

Attendance

Compulsory teaching (such as lectures, seminars, PBL, etc.) requires a minimum attendance of 70%, regardless of the reason for absence. In exceptional cases, and upon agreement with the course coordinator, absences beyond this may be compensated with an academic assignment.

The reason for absence does not need to be documented (for example with a medical certificate), as it is the attendance in the lectures that is registrated. In special cases, we may request documentation, for example in connection with academically compensatory assignments.

Extended Deadline

You can apply for an extension in the event of sudden, unforeseen circumstances occurring within the last two weeks before the submission deadline of mandatory assignments, bachelor's theses, or master's theses.

The reason for the extension must be documented and can be approved based on the following:

  • Illness affecting you or someone you are responsible for
  • Childbirth
  • Death in the immediate family
  • Other compelling reasons beyond your control

You may be granted the following extensions:

  • Coursework requirements: up to one week
  • Bachelor’s thesis: up to two weeks
  • Master’s thesis: up to two weeks

Application for extension

Applications for extensions should be submitted via the online form (Nettskjema).

The documentation requirements are the same as for absence from exams.
