Revised master’s thesis

If you have received a failing grade on your Master's thesis

A Master thesis that did not achieve a passing mark can only be resubmitted once more and in a revised form as a new examination attempt. It must be submitted within an agreed deadline, cf. Regulations for Studies and Examinations at the University of Oslo § 5-6, second paragraph. The revised Master Thesis needs to be handed in within the subsequent two academic semesters.

Please note that no supervision is provided in connection with working on the revised master’s thesis. All master’s candidates at the Department of Special Needs Education receive a written justification for the grade in addition to the grade on the master’s thesis. The justification given by the examination committee for your master’s thesis must form the basis for your work on the revised thesis.

At the University of Oslo, students are as a rule not granted more than three examination attempts for any given exam, cf. Regulations for Studies and Examinations at the University of Oslo § 5-6, first paragraph. If you have used three attempts, you must apply to the faculty for permission to submit a revised master’s thesis as a fourth examination attempt. Applications should be sent by e-mail to the Faculty of Educational Sciences at uv-studieinfo@uv.uio.no.

If an appeal against a failed exam result has been registered and the outcome of this is a new grade that constitutes a pass, you will lose the opportunity to submit a new revised version of the original master’s thesis.
