KIVU – AI and assessment in higher education

KIVU explores assessment forms in a digital age, and addresses the increased need for assessment practices that focus on process, critical thinking and deep learning through the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in authentic learning situations, such as collaborative learning, problem-based learning and case-based learning.

KIVU is an interdisciplinary collaboration between IPED, ISP and LINKUP, aiming to develop a shared knowledge base and translate theory into practice through, among other things:

  • New assessment methods and designs, including innovative tasks such as human–AI collaboration tasks, multi-stage writing, with a focus on process (prompting), and the use of Socratic questioning.
  • Documented assessment approaches developed through design-based teaching in specific courses at IPED and ISP.
  • Practical examples and cases demonstrating how AI can contribute to greater innovation and authenticity in assessment situations.

Developed assessment examples will be integrated as real cases in the UNIPED basic module, ensuring that this expertise reaches educators at all faculties at UiO.

The group will also explore collaboration with the TRUST research community to connect AI research more closely with practical teaching.
