Goal

The goal of this project is to strengthen the connections between mathematics teacher education on campus and in practice.

About the Project

In this project we aim to investigate student teachers' and practice mentors' reflections regarding school practice and mathematics teaching in Norwegian mathematics classrooms. We explore how observation rubrics can contribute to making both practice supervision and self reflection on own teaching more goal oriented and precise.

The study targets student teachers' reflections on own teaching practice, supervision during practice, and mentors' reflections on supervision. Moreover, we focus on developing a tool that contributes to connecting teaching on campus, teaching practice, and supervision, as well as to support student teachers in teaching in diverse mathematics classrooms.

Background

Teacher education is faced with several challenges as student teachers report a lack of connections between school practice, theory, and on-campus teaching. Moreover, due to increasingly diverse classrooms, mathematics teachers need new ways of thinking and teaching. Thus, project aims to develop a tool suitable to both support and guide student teachers in their teaching and supervision.
