Inga Bostad is currently Professor of Philosophy, department of Education, University of Oslo and Professor 2 at Oslo School of Architecture and Design. She was appointed director for the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights at the Faculty of Law, UiO from 2014-2017, elected Pro-rector for the University of Oslo from 2009-2013 and the first appointed Vice-rector for the University of Oslo from 2006-2009.

She is head of the research group HumStud, Humanities Studies in Pedagogy and project leader of the comparative research group NordEd (The Nordic Education Model).
