Norwegian Teacher Education as a Cultural History of the Present (PhD project) (completed)

This project sets out to examine teacher education in Norway historically and contemporary.

About the project

The PhD-project: ‘Norwegian teacher education as cultural history of the present’ sets, as mentioned above, out to examine teacher education in Norway historically and contemporary. By developing a number of text analytical readings which explore political designs on the content and aim of teacher education 1930 – 1998, the research seeks to elucidate discourses of Bildung in this period of time.

The aim of the project is twofold: to empirically strengthen the knowledge and understanding of the role of education in the process of modernization and democratisation in Norway and to contribute to a normative discussion of the future direction for an education for democracy.
