Education for International Understanding 1946- 1963 (PhD project) (completed)

This project is on the role of education in the rebuilding of Europe after 1945.

About the project

The project is in the tradition of educational history, but also contains elements of political science and political and social history. In the analysis she will use theories on knowledge transfer and qualitative network analysis.

Teiges focus is the connection between Norway and Unesco on education for democracy from the start in 1946 until 1963. During this period Norway was engaged in a large Unesco-initiated project called "Education for living in a world community: co-ordinated experimental activities in schools of Member States". She looks at the contact between Unesco and Norway, the transfer, adaptaion and rejection of the different ideas in the project between Norway as a member state and Unesco as the international organization. To see this in a comparative dimention she will also look into how the other countries participating in the project talked about their views in the reports that came in during the project period.
