CEMO is part of the Faculty of Educational Sciences at the University of Oslo. The objective is to become the leading Nordic and European center in educational measurement, assessment and psychometrics. To achieve this objective, the center carries out high-quality research, teaching, and outreach, promotes interdisciplinary national and international collaboration, supports career development and provides a good working environment.
The centre conducts applied research within the fields of early childhood education, primary, secondary and higher education, as well as basic research within the field of educational measurement. Through its research activities, CEMO develops and disseminates methodological knowledge to relevant stakeholders in the sector of education.
CEMO is in its area of competence an advisor to, amongst others, the Norwegian Ministry of Education and Research and the Norwegian Directorate for Education and Training as well as to a broad range of international units. Norwegian institutions linked to the field of educational measurement have the possibility to ask for advice with respect to fundamental methodological challenges. Note though that CEMO is primarily a research unit. Operational work on technical questions exceeds the scope of the centre’s time resources.
In collaboration with the other departments at the Faculty of Educational Sciences, CEMO trains candidates at the master- and doctoral levels. A Master in Assessment, Measurement and Evaluation started in August 2018.
