The Faculty of Educational Sciences at the University of Oslo welcomes Antoni Verger, Professor of Sociology at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, for an open lecture.

In this lecture, Antoni Verger will explore collaborative governance as an emerging approach to the governance of education systems. By collaborative governance, he refers to institutional arrangements that enable schools, public administrations, local actors and other stakeholders to coordinate action, share responsibilities and address complex educational challenges across organisational boundaries.

Verger will review different collaborative governance arrangements, considering both their diversity and their shared features, before focusing on a pilot experience in Barcelona that he and his team are currently evaluating through the ERC-funded ACCOUNTED project. Drawing on this study, the lecture will discuss the potential and challenges of collaborative governance in education, including whether it can be understood as a new paradigm in school governance. It will also reflect on the value of theory-based evaluation approaches for analysing complex, multi-actor governance initiatives.

The event also marks the beginning of new collaborative activities at UiO connected to the Horizon-funded project INTEGRED (An Integrative Approach To the Production, Use, and Governance of Evidence in European Education, 2026–2030), in which the Faculty of Education, leads one of the work packages.
