MEDIATIZATION – THEORETICAL ASPECTS

Completed as part of Mediatized Stories

Editor: Knut Lundby

The first goal of the MEDIATIZED STORIES project was to undertake a theoretical clarification of contrasting conceptualisations of mediation and mediatization, basically in media studies and in studies of mediated action and activities.

A collection on Mediatization: Concept, Changes, Consequences was published by Peter Lang in New York May 2009. A range of established researchers, as well as young scholars contribute to the volume.

Mediatization points to changes and transformations in contemporary high modern societies. Processes of mediatization affect all areas of social life. This book takes the existing body of literature on 'mediatization' under critical examination. The book intends to broaden the discussion, and to make it theoretically deeper.
