About the project
The project examines how Catherine Malabou’s philosophy, in particular her concept of plasticity, can open up new areas of inquiry for philosophy of education. Hogstad suggest that the traditional discussion of Bildung as the continual development of the political, deliberative and thoughtful self, should be revisited. It is time – and scientific reason – to accept that the development and expression of body and thought are two faces of the same phenomenon, and that their relation and constitution are plastic. The intention is to bring to philosophy of education a contribution in which the understanding of the human as a free, biological being, forms the basis for a contemporary concept of Bildung – what is called a Pedagogy of Plasticity.
