LIS – Reading in Higher Education

The LIS education group will explore and develop teaching approaches that can strengthen students’ reading in higher education. It brings together people from different academic environments (Norwegian language education, social studies education, mathematics education, pedagogy and reading research) to develop a shared understanding of students’ reading.

The competence development initiative begins with study circles, in which the group invites external experts to build knowledge collectively. By piloting the approaches in different courses and evaluating them across contexts, the faculty’s collective teaching competence is strengthened.

The education group will develop and document the collaboration through:

  • Teaching approaches that motivate students to read the course literature and develop appropriate reading strategies.
  • Piloting collective reading practices, such as “shut up and read” sessions or joint discussions of texts.
  • Evaluation and accompanying research based on observation, focus groups and interviews with students about their reading identity.
  • A synthesis of theoretical knowledge and practical experience to be used in further dissemination.
