Energy Tivoli Exhibit Inauguration

The Norwegian Museum of Science and Technology is inaugurating the new exhibition Energy Tivoli, which has been partly developed in collaboration with the MIRACLE project, and which is a cornerstone for MIRACLE's research on technology-supported learning across contexts.

From December the 4th, the Norwegian Museum of Science and Technology (NMST) will count with a new exhibition on energy. The exhibition, "Energy Tivoli", is inspired in entertainment attractions and ride parks, and is an extension of their permanent science centre. The installations that constitute the exhibition will cover topics such as the variety of available energy resources, the different means by which humans make use of them, and the geopolitical implications related to energy transformation and consumption. A distinctive feature of the exhibit will be an emphasis on both scientific and socio-political aspects related to energy and energy consumption. Combining entertainment with science learning is not only one of the main goals, but it has turned into the very theme of the exhibition.

During the last months, a good deal of the MIRACLE work has been dedicated to the design and development of one of the installations that will be part of the exhibition, and of an i-pad application that will support visitors' navigation throughout the different installations. One of the core aspects of the MIRACLE project is the integration of the activities taking place in the science museum and the science classroom, and therefore this inauguration is a very important step in MIRACLE's trajectory. During the forthcoming months, final adjustments will be done to the different elements of the project as to maximize the integration of activities and technologies according to our pedogagical principles and previous research. Testing of these will be conducted during the months of Febraury and March in a study where high school students from one school in Oslo will participate.

The MIRACLE team will take part in the official inauguration, which will take place at the NMST next Tuesday Dec 4th, at 11:00. We celebrate the effort so far realized and look forward to continue working on the projects' development and associated research. If you have any questions regarding MIRACLE's role and research interests in regar to the exhibition you may contact the project leader, Ingeborg Krange, or Sven Magne Bakken, who has coordinated the collaboration between the museum, InterMedia's lab and StormStudios.
