Sammendrag

As Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems, including generative AI (GenAI),evolve, they offer new opportunities for information access andfeedback across disciplines. However, limited research has examinedpre-service teachers’ attitudes towards GenAI, particularly their per-ceptions, experiences, and usage. This study addresses the gapusing a mixed methods approach, combining survey data from 209Norwegian pre-service teachers with interviews from 11 of thesame participants. Most were aware of GenAI and had used AItools, though none considered themselves experts. Statistical anal-ysis identified key predictors of AI knowledge and beliefs aboutGenAI’s usefulness in teaching. Participants acknowledged GenAI’spractical benefits for lesson planning and content discovery butraised concerns about its trustworthiness and implications forhuman-centred education. Interviews offered deeper insight intodifferences between experienced and novice users. The study high-lights implications for teacher education, emphasising the need todevelop AI competency to prepare future educators for an increas-ingly digital landscape.
