Forskningsinteresser

Forskningen min har sitt grunnlag i anvendt engelsk lingvistikk. Forskningsområdet mitt er engelskdidaktikk, spesielt uformell læring av engelsk gjennom ekstramural engelsk, altså engelsk utenfor skolen. Jeg myntet begrepet «Extramural English» i doktorgradsavhandlingen min, og siden den gang har det blitt et utbredt begrep innenfor dette forskningsfeltet. Jeg har gjennomført flere studier av forholdet mellom ekstramural engelsk og ulike aspekter av engelskferdigheter, ikke minst ordforråd. Opp gjennom årene har jeg tilegnet meg ekspertise om gaming, og spesielt forholdet mellom kommersielle videospill og engelsk språklæring, med et fokus på barn og unge voksne. Andre forskningsområder jeg også interesserer meg for inkluderer vurdering av muntlige ferdigheter i L2 og engelsk språkundervisning, gjerne i flerspråklige klasserom. De fleste av studiene mine er kvantitative, men over tid har jeg lagt til kvalitative metoder i verktøykassen min, og har gjennomført studier med blandede metoder og rent kvalitative studier.

Jeg er utdannet faglærer fra Sverige og har 15 års undervisningserfaring fra ungdomsskole og videregående skole fra før jeg startet min akademiske karriere. Ved ILS underviser jeg først og fremst i engelskdidaktikk på lektorprogrammet og PPU, men jeg underviser også ulike doktorgradskurs av og til. Grov oversikt (på engelsk):
