Sten Ludvigsen er professor ved Det utdanningsvitenskapelige fakultet i læring og digitalisering ved Universitetet Oslo. Han har gjennomført studier av bruk av digitale omgivelser og ressurser de siste 20 årene i skole og arbeidsliv. Han ledet arbeidet med NOU 21014:7 og NOU 2015:8 om fremtidens skole.  Sentrale tema i forskningen er hvordan elever lærer domenespesifikk og generisk kunnskap i fag i ulike typer av kontekster og hvilke kompetanser de utvikler. Ludvigsen har arbeidet med digitale, sosiale og kognitive design av omgivelser for læring i en rekke nasjonale og internasjonale forsknings- og innovasjonsprosjekter.
